There was an obscure feature on the today show the other morning, where a politically correct teacher was teaching children to sing “We wish you a Happy Holiday …” The argument was that we did not want to give offense to those who did not believe in Christmas.
One of the people presenting suggested that these holidays had little meaning to the majority of Australians and that Christmas was family time and Easter was a celebration of chocolate.
I suspect sad, but true. My suspicion is that I may have more in common with my Hindu and Moslem brothers in that at least their a tradition and a sense of meaning and purpose, a history and a moral code that has an objective foundation in a tradition that helps us be who we have come to be.
If we loose all connection with our history then we have little reason to expect a future.
