According to reports today, although Craig Thompson survived a vote to remove him from parliament yesterday, just, two independents from NSW, namely Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott have expressed concern, although they both voted with the Government to prevent that happening. It would seem they are taking further advice on the matter, and it would seem that neither of them are comfortable with the new arrangement where Craig Thompson sits on the cross benches, and votes with the Government. It would seem it is a get out of jail card for both Craig Thomspon and Julia Gillard’s Government.
Asked about the possibility of the independents changing their allegiance on this issue Julia Gillard advised ‘I don’t think that’s going to happen’.
On the one hand of course the two have promised not to support a no confidence motion in the Government. Is a no confidence in a cross bencher the same thing?
The Government one must presume on this issue is in difficult and dangerous water.
