A New Day

Well yesterday was the Election and today we have a new Premier, on a landslide.

I am perhaps a little disappointed about Swansea. Gillian seems to have got about 16.6 on primaries and the greens 8.4 which probably would have given her about 26 or so percent on distributed preferences. Sad but true, and just not enough.

Handing out how to votes was a good experience, and although you always get a lot of dogmatic, we also had a lot of very warm and positive people coming through the gates looking for Gillians how to vote.

At the same time I feel Swansea must be a shock for the ALP, as this is the first time that they have lost the seat to the Liberals (Not quite certain yet, but fairly clear).  I suspect that Gillian’s running has created a significant thorn in Labor’s side which has hurt them badly. Perhaps that is just recompense for the way they treated her.

All power to Kristina for an excellent speech in  defeat. I reality I suspect she was too magnanimous in accepting responsibility, and even Graham Richardson thought that though he saw the villains of history (past premiers as the problem).  I suspect there is more reality in the machine owning a bit of the blame here. For Labor to regain respect in NSW they will need to be honest, fair dealing, and return to core values. They also need discipline, openness, transparency, loyalty, commitment and integrity.

It is easy to think the Liberal won the election, and in some sense they did, but it is also very true that Labor lost NSW, not just the election, and they lost their way more than once. They test now will be to see f the Liberal National Coalition can win NSW, which they now have four years to convince is they can. To do that they will need to be honest, fair dealing, and return to core values. They also need discipline, openness, transparency, loyalty, commitment and integrity.
